Q. Print Setup shows a ? and not a list of printers
If when you run Print Setup, the initial printer select dropdown box only shows a ? and not a list of printers please try the following
Right Click on My Computer (either on your desktop or the windows start menu)
- Choose Properties
- Click on Advanced or Advanced System Settings (depending on your version of windows)
- Click on the Advanced Tab
- Click on Settings (under system performance)
- Click on Data Execution Prevention
There are two options, the first option is default and is labelled
'Turn on DEP for essential windows programs and services only'
The problem should not occur if this option is selected.
The second option, which is labelled
'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select'
If this is selected, you will need to add Garage Assistant to the list of exceptions, or choose the other option above.
- Click on Add, then browse to the installed garage assistant folder
- Usually Drive C: > Garage Assistant V3 for single user or
Drive C: > Garage Assistant Network / Garage Assistant Client - If using the network version, you will need to ensure Filemaker Pro is also added to the exception list.
- Finally, you may be requested to perform a reboot of windows.
Data Execution prevention can prevent GA3 from sending commands to the printer if enabled.
If the problem is not rectified after changing this setting, you may have to give us a call to alter an internal setting in GA3, which requires us to link up remotely, alternatively perform a backup in GA3 then re-install the latest version update (even if it looks like the same GA3 version number)
