Back Print

Sometimes computer data can become corrupt if your system suffers a power failure or severe crash you may be presented with the following message when trying to open Garage Assistant

''The file datafile_main is damaged and cannot be opened, please use the recover command''

This guide is for the Single User / Standalone version only.

In order to use the recover command, follow these steps:

PLEASE EXCERCISE CAUTION!

Before proceeding, we recommend that you make a copy of your ENTIRE Garage Assistant GA3 Install folder as a precaution.  Once everything is complete and working as expected, you can remove the temporary copy.

Do not delete any files until you are sure everything is ok.

For Windows, the key combination is:  Ctrl and Shift
For macOS, the key combination is: Cmd and Alt
  • Press and Hold the two keys listed above and double click the GA3 icon as if you were opening GA3 normally, keep the keys held until you see a File Explorer/Finder window titled "Select Damaged File"

If the File Explorer/Finder window is not titled "Select Damaged File", press cancel and repeat the above process, ensuring you keep the two required keys pressed.

  • Highlight the file named 'datafile_main' from the Garage Assistant V3 folder

  • With the file highlighted, click on Select to begin the process.

  • Once Finished, you will see a Brief Description, simply click OK.

  • A file explorer window will re-open allowing you to select subsequent files however, you do not need to do this, simply click on Cancel.

  •   GA3 should now be recovered and open as normal.

Note:
Sometimes, after performing a recovery on a GA3 file, you may get a message warning you not to use the file going forward.  However, this can be a false message if the only noticeable change is Structure: scanned; x items modified.  (usually 1 or 2) as shown below.

If this is the case, ignore the warning message.
