Using Outlook / MS Live for outgoing Emails in Garage Assistant

Using Microsoft based email accounts:


Note: This is ONLY if your email account is provided by Microsoft.
Outlook as an email provider is not to be confused with Outlook used for reading your emails from any provider.  If your email account is not from Microsoft, this is not required.

Microsoft sent the following email out, regarding access to their services using traditional authentication methods as of 16th Sept 2024:

 

We released GA4 v4.044 on the same day, which adds modern authentication to GA4 to cater for this requirement from Microsoft.  If you are on an earlier version, you will need to update to continue sending emails via Microsoft Email Accounts

 

Updating your sign-in, within GA4

 

Go to Admin > Configuration > Email / SMS Settings

Enter your email address into the "Email From Address" and "Email Username" fields
Click on "Authenticate with OAuth V2 (Microsoft Emails)"

This should set the required parameters and ask you to authenticate with your Microsoft account linked with the email address you wish to use.  Follow the onscreen steps to complete the setup and then test your emails.

Additional Settings for Outlook SMTP Server

SMTP Server Address:  smtp-mail.outlook.com
SMTP Auth Method: OAUTH
SMTP Server Port: 587
SSL:  On

It is important that the "Email From Address" matches the Username (also your email address) in the "SMTP Server Login Details" section of GA4, otherwise any emails will initially appear to be sending, but will later fail with an error.
